GAP Holiday Message 2021

Happy Holidays from GAP!

Remember to play safe and Gift Responsibly this season!

In 2021, the National Council on Problem Gambling and the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviours launched the Gift Responsibly Campaign, formerly known as the Holiday Lottery Responsible Gambling Campaign.

Keeping lottery tickets out of the hands of minors is the mission of this campaign as “the earlier a person’s participation or even exposure to gambling in childhood, the more likely they are to develop gambling problems later in life.”

Lottery organizations around the world are participating to spread the messaging, including Sask Lotteries with their “a joy to give, but not to kids” messaging.

To participate in this campaign during the holiday season, GAP is highlighting not only the risks of giving lottery and scratch tickets to minors but also the risks of gifting tickets to those who may be recovering from a gambling addiction.

To emphasize the fact that gambling is very much a hidden addiction, we offer some advice: Don’t gift lottery scratch tickets to anyone else but yourself! Think before you buy and keep others safe by doing so.

If you or a loved one are struggling with gambling related harm, contact the Saskatchewan Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-306-6789.
